Helping Our
Animal Friends
How I help:
At Barking
Horse Studio one of my goals has always been to
give back. One way I do that is by supporting
local animal rescue efforts by:
1.
donating a portion of my artist income for dogs
in need of medical attention
2. fostering dogs temporarily
3. acting as a link in a chain of placement
efforts to find homes for needy animals
4. dispensing information via my website and
word of mouth re: spay/neuter and adoption
5. donating artist services (see the Adoption
Option link, coming soon)
How you can
help:
One reason I love
to do pet portraits is because it reminds me
there are people out there who adore their
animals. Adore yours today: if you haven't
spayed or neutered, do so, an d
if there is room for another animal in your
life, consider adopting an older, mixed breed,
or hard-to-place animal. Visit your local animal
shelter, go to
petfinder.com,
or go to the internet and type in the breed of
your choice followed by the word "rescue" (for
example "lab rescue") to see literally thousands
of animals in need of homes across the US. Many
rescue organizations have transportation
assistance, so if there is a pooch in
Pennsylvania or a kitten in California you wish
to rescue, often they can work with you on
getting the animal to your area using a network
of volunteers.

Why Spay or Neuter?
Latest statistics*
indicate that 450 dogs and cats are destroyed each hour in the US
because there are not enough homes for them. (That's one pet killed
every 6.5 seconds.)
In order for every dog and cat
born to have a home, the average family of four would have to own 24
dogs and 36 cats.
For every child born there are
45 dogs and cats born.
Only 1 out of 10 dogs and 1
out of 12 cats born ever finds a permanent home.
A spayed/neutered pet is a
happier, healthier pet.
